Covenant Membership

Acts 2:47 And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

Church members commit to joining a spiritual family who provides encouragement and support. They are called to a higher degree of responsibility, service, and sacrifice. Our pastors and ministry leaders pledge to assist our members with care, counsel, prayer, and teaching. It is our hope that you will consider becoming a member at NBC. Read our church covenant below.

Four Reasons to Be a Member

1. It’s Biblical

Christ is committed to the building up of His bride the Church (Matt 16:18). Christ loved the church, and gave himself for her (Eph 5:25). Christ calls us to commit to serving and loving one another (John 13:34-35; Gal 5:13). These are truths with reference to the "universal Church", God's called out people from all ages and across the globe.

But how do we participate within this "universal Church"? Scripture explains that the universal Church manifests itself through smaller, localized expressions in what we call "local churches". This is where we believe formal membership becomes important. Christ commands us to submit to local church authority (Heb 13:17). He also calls those leaders to shepherd the specific flock which is among them (1 Pet 5:2).

2. It’s Countercultural

It is an antidote to our society. We live in an age when people resist being committed to anything – a job, a marriage, our country. Partnership swims against the current of America’s “consumer religion.” It is an unselfish decision and blessing therefore to become a part of a local church through membership.

3. It’s Practical

It defines those upon whom we can depend. Every team must have a roster. Every school must have an enrollment. Every business has a payroll. Every army has an enlistment. Even our country takes a census and requires voter registration. Membership identifies specifically whom our pastors are to shepherd, our deacons are to serve, and whom our church family can rely upon.

4. It’s Healthy

It produces spiritual growth. The Bible gives major emphasis for the need of Christians to be accountable to each other for spiritual growth. You cannot be accountable when you’re not committed to a specific church family.
